This policy sets out the process Scanletics Ltd follows to provide a safe and comfortable environment for both patients and staff. We are committed to ensuring that best practice is observed at all times, and that the safety and wellbeing of everyone is a top priority.
Policy
• All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present during any consultation, examination, or procedure if they wish.
• A chaperone may be a family member or friend, or in some cases a formal chaperone may be provided.
• Patients are encouraged to request a chaperone at the time of booking, where possible, so that arrangements can be made in advance and appointments are not delayed.
• All Scanletics staff are aware of this policy and have received guidance on how to follow it.
Chaperones may:
• Provide emotional comfort and reassurance to patients.
• Assist with undressing where appropriate and agreed.
• Act as an interpreter if language is a barrier.
• Provide protection and support to staff against allegations or inappropriate behaviour.
Additional considerations
• If the chaperone is a patient’s companion, they must be over the age of 18 and willing to be present.
• Cultural, religious, or personal preferences that affect whether a patient is comfortable being touched or assisted must always be respected.
